The AWHONN strategic planning process includes the designation of advisory panels that serve to provide the Board of Directors with expert advice for new initiatives. The Board of Directors in June approved the call for applications for the following advisory panel:

2013 Nominating Committee
(Develops Board Slate for 2013 Elections, 2013-2014 Board
Term)
The
Nominating Committee identifies and interviews prospective candidates for the board and recommends a
slate to the board. Committee members should have a wide network, be
familiar with leadership qualities essential for governing an association and
have interviewing experience. The committee meets by conference call.

2013 Finance
Committee
This national committee supports the board and staff on a wide range of
financial matters including operating budgets, long term financial planning and
financial implications of financial planning. The committee meets once
face-to-face in October and occasionally by conference call. Committee members
should have experience with budgeting and financial planning. Comprises 2 board
members and 2 members-at-large.

2013 Public Policy Committee
This national
committee supports the board and staff in developing AWHONN federal public
policy priorities, as well as the action plans behind them. The committee meets
via phone once per month, and face-to-face at least once per year, usually in
conjunction with the Leadership Conference or the annual convention. Committee
members are eligible to serve two 1-year terms and should have experience with
legislative, advocacy or policy issues.

2013 Annual Convention
Host Committee - Applications Due
November 15, 2012
This committee serves onsite throughout
the convention as a resource for local area activity, greeters and
problem solvers. The 2013 Host Committee will be comprised of nine
members of the Tennessee Section and one AWHONN Staff Representative. In addition
to being on site during the 2013 Convention (June 15-19), host committee members
have 1 day-long mandatory planning meeting in April/May of 2013 at the
Gaylord Opryland (most likely a Saturday).

2015 AWHONN Convention
Program Committee
- Now Accepting
Applications
This committee develops the program and selects speakers
within priorities identified by the Board. The committee will meet once in
the site city, Long Beach, California during the weekend of November 22-24,
2013; and monthly by conference call thereafter. Attendance at the fall meeting
and the actual convention June 13-17, 2015 is
mandatory.
Co-led by a volunteer-staff team, the committee has seven members including the Host Committee Chair and President-Elect. Committee members should have a broad network; be knowledgeable about clinical practice, research and education trends and issues; have time management, program planning and organizational skills; and have attended at least one AWHONN Annual Convention in the last five years. The Program Chair attends the convention in the year preceding her/his term.
Specifically the Program Committee:
- Writes learner objectives based on the theme and goal of the program; plans the program design; and selects topics and invites speakers for pre-convention and convention sessions.
- Reviews and scores innovative program, case study and specialty session abstracts.
- Serves on site throughout the convention providing assistance to attendees, moderating sessions; and troubleshooting session or speaker related issues.

The following positions will be available for the 2014 AWHONN Board of Directors: President-Elect; Secretary-Treasurer; three regional directors: Region I (AK, AB, AZ, BC, CA, HI, ID, MT, NV, NT, OR, UT, WA, YT); Region V (CT, ME, MA, NB, NF, NH, NJ, NY, NS, PE, PQ, RI, VT); Region VI (AL, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN); and one at-large director.
Directors serve 2 years with the opportunity to run for a second 2-year term. The president-elect serves as president-elect in 2014, president in 2015, and chair of the Nominating Committee in 2016.
The Board is responsible for:
- Assuring effective leadership and sound management
- Establishing strategic direction
- Overseeing business required to carry out the mission and goals of the association
- Setting core program and fiscal function
- Appointing panels and committees.

Purpose & Program
The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is designed to recruit
high potential AWHONN leaders and provide fast track development, highlighting
leadership and business skills through experiential learning and training. The
program is designed to populate AWHONN's leadership with a diverse group of
nurses and to provide a leadership development program
designed to build effective leaders, strengthen AWHONN, and improve leadership succession planning.

Responsible for leadership, membership and program development activities, the Section Chair leads the Section Coordinating Team comprised of elected and appointed section and chapter leaders and the Section Secretary Treasurer manages the fiscal responsibilities for the section.
