Obtaining laboratory tests is an important component of preeclampsia treatment protocols.  Nurses need to be able to identify and evaluate the laboratory test results that may indicate maternal decompensation in order to provide appropriate and lifesaving care as well as to identify values indicative of maternal improvements.

It is important for nurses to be knowledgeable of and sensitive to the changes in maternal laboratory values in the presence of preeclampsia because subtle changes in the numerical values may be signaling the need for changes in the ongoing plan for care.

Assessment of laboratory values is a critical component in the ongoing evaluation of preeclamptic women, which is why this webinar will help you learn the meaning of:

Initial Laboratory Data

  • Renal function testing
  • Hepatic function testing
  • Coagulation function testing

Systems Changes Indicative of Impairment

  • Laboratory trends as indicators of maternal  decompensation
  • Renal failure
  • Hepatic failure
  • Onset of coagulopathies
