What is the AWHONN EDGE™ Benchmarking Database?
A new database to assist nurse leaders with evidence-based decisions in clinical and administrative environments. Hospitals can compare data from their hospital to like hospitals, and to all participating hospitals.

Will the database contain Personal Health Information (PHI)?
No, the database does not extract nor house patient or organizational identifiers.

Will the database reveal my hospital name?
No, your hospital name remains confidential.

How frequently is the data extracted from our Electronic Medical Records?
Data is extracted on a monthly basis.

When/where are the data and reports available?
Data and reports can be accessed securely online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Reports may also be created at any time and imported to multiple formats including PDF, Excel, Comma Separated, and TIFF. View reports via login to www.awhonnEDGE.org (Username and password required).

What personnel resources are needed to support database set up and use?
Based on beta site experience and feedback, initial set up requires about 5 to 7 hours per week of one person’s time (e.g., educator, specialist, clinical informatics person, or other designee). This includes a kick-off meeting and completing the clinical mapping. (See Installation Overview) An information technology person is needed for about two hours during set up to ensure VPN access.

Ongoing use depends on how often your hospital chooses to access reports and utilize the information.
