   President Kim L. Armour, NP-BC, APN, MSN, RDMS

Kim L. Armour is a certified nurse practitioner in women’s health care and perinatology, and holds registry as a diagnostic medical sonographer in obstetrics and gynecology, specializing in fetal diagnostics. She is currently manager and nurse practitioner of women’s subspecialties at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL.

Ms. Armour holds a MS in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, a BSN from Keuka College, Keuka Park, NY and an associate degree in nursing from the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, IL.

     
    President-Elect Susan A. Albrecht, PhD, RN, FAAN

Susan A. Albrecht is a professor and associate dean for student/alumni services and development at University of Pittsburg, School of Nursing. A faculty member for 30+ years, she also worked the emergency department as a staff nurse.

Dr. Albrecht’s leadership experience with the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association includes president and VP of the board of trustees, plus as a member of the executive committee for its nursing foundation, and chair of the scholarship committee for 6 years.

Susan is a board director for the American Academy of Pediatrics Cleaner Air for Healthy Children and serves on the governing board for the University of Pittsburg, Office of Child Development Early Head Start/Family Foundations. She also chairs the American Academy of Nursing, Adolescent and Young Adult Expert Panel.

Dr. Albrecht received her BSN and Master’s in maternity nursing and her PhD in curriculum and supervision from the University of Pittsburg. She also received a Master’s of Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

     
    Secretary/Treasurer Kathleen Hale, BSN, CNA, MHA, RN

Kathleen Hale is the Associate Vice President of Nursing for Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME, with 25+ years in maternal child health nursing. Ms. Hale is responsible for all maternal-child health services and the outpatient departments.

A member of the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House in Portland, ME and a volunteer with the Maine March of Dimes.  She is certified in nursing administration from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Ms. Hale holds a Master’s in health services administration from Sage Graduate School, a BSN from the State University of New York—the College at New Paltz, and a diploma from St. Peter’s Hospital School of Nursing in Albany, NY. 

     
    Director Karen Adkins-Bley RN, BSN, MSA, JD

Karen Adkins-Bley is a nurse-attorney with 20+ years of nursing primarily in maternal/child health. She is employed by the University of Michigan Health System as a risk management consultant in claims management to pediatrics and obstetrics.

Her experience includes hospital staff nursing in obstetrics, pediatrics and adult intensive care; utilization review consultant; legal nurse consultant; and home healthcare administration. Ms. Adkins-Bley is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Managers, the American Bar Association, Michigan Bar Association, and American Health Lawyers Association.

Ms. Adkins-Bley earned a bachelor’s in nursing from Mercy College of Detroit, a Master’s in Administration from Madonna University, and a law degree from Detroit College of Law.

     
  Director Karen T. Harris, MSN, RN, WHNP-BC

Karen Harris is an administrative director of the women’s and children’s care stream at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital in Michigan. Was a consultant for AWHONN Consulting Group and Dynamics Research Corporation, she performs site assessments, perinatal risk assessments, and trainings on team behaviors.

Previously as a clinical nurse specialist in intrapartum, antepartum, and women’s health for an organization with 6600+ births, Ms. Harris developed policies, collaborated with staff, and implemented practice changes to ensure high quality care.

She is certified as a women’s health nurse practitioner and served as a regional perinatal coordinator. A published author in peer-reviewed nursing journals, she lectures nationwide.

Ms. Harris earned a BSN and Master’s of Science in nursing from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.

     
  Director Rose L. Horton, RN, MSM

Rose L. Horton is director of maternal child health at Saint Vincent Health Center with oversight of labor/delivery, mother/baby, NICU, peds, GYN, and the women’s center. Her vision, in this role, is to effect change that promotes Saint Vincent center as the hospital of choice for women and children in Northwest Erie.

Ms. Horton earned a diploma in nursing from The Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, OH; plus a BSN and a Master's of Science in Management from Regis University in Denver.

     
  Director Jill Janke, RNC, PhD

Jill Janke is a certified women’s health practitioner and a professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage where she has taught for 25+ years. She is chair of the nursing graduate program, and maintains clinical competency via a part-time hospital staff position. Ms. Janke led the team that developed the first and revised editions of the AWHONN breastfeeding guideline.

Ms. Janke holds a BSN from the University of Utah, MS from Montana State University, and PhD from Rush University in Chicago, IL.

     
  Director Ruth Nolan, MSN, RN, RNC

Ruth Nolan is the vice president of operations for Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA, and adjunct faculty for PA College of Technology. Ms. Nolan is responsible for all women's health services and sub-specialty departments. She also provides lecture and clinical education to pre-licensure and baccalaureate students.

Ms. Nolan is a board member for the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania, and the north central chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is certified in inpatient obstetrics from Nursing Credentialing Center and as a labor support specialist from Lamaze International.

She holds a MS in nursing from Pennsylvania State University, and a BSN from Pennsylvania College of Technology.

     
    Director Mimi Pomerleau DNP, WHNP-BC, RNC-OB

Mimi Pomerleau is course coordinator for family-focused nursing at Lawrence Memorial Regis College. She worked as a staff nurse in various perinatal settings, most recently at Massachusetts General Hospital in the antepartum/postpartum unit.

Ms. Pomerleau served on the board of Massachusetts Center for Nursing and volunteers in local school and community groups.

She received an undergraduate degree from Northeastern University, a Master’s from the women’s health nurse practitioner program at Boston College, and a Post Master’s certificate in nursing education. She is enrolled in the doctorate of nursing practice program at Regis College.

     
  Director Linda Schofield, CNAA, MSN, RN, BC

Linda Schofield is director for women’s and infant’s services at Roper St. Francis Healthcare in Charleston, SC. With 28+ years experience in maternal child health as a staff nurse, educator, manager and administrator, she is also certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Nursing Administration, Advanced.

Ms. Schofield is a well-known speaker and author of the AWHONN publication, “Perinatal Staffing and the Nursing Shortage: Challenge and Principle Based Strategies.â??

Ms. Schofield received a BS in Psychology from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, PA, a BSN from Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, and a Master’s in Nursing Administration from Villanova University in Villanova, PA.

     
  Director Sheila M. Swanson, RNC, MSN, CNS

Sheila Swanson is a staff nurse in the labor and delivery unit at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock TX, and previously served 5 years as nurse manager of a mom/baby unit.

While in clinical practice, Ms. Swanson held teaching positions at Covenant School of Nursing, South Plains College, and Texas Tech University School of Nursing. She is the secretary of District 18 of the Texas Nurses Association.

Ms. Swanson graduated from the Lubbock Vocational Nursing program. She holds a BSN from Texas Tech University School of Nursing in Lubbock, TX, and a Master’s in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso. She was recognized as a maternal child clinical nurse specialist in 1993.

     
  Ex-Officio Member Barbara A. Moran, PhD, CNM, FACCE

Barbara A. Moran is assistant professor at the Catholic University of America where she teaches undergraduate nursing students. She also practices as a certified nurse midwife in a collaborative private practice with 5 women OB/GYNs responsible for prenatal, postpartum and well women care in Falls Church, VA.

With 30+ years experience, primarily in women’s health/maternal child health, she worked as a public health nurse, OB/GYN nurse practitioner, and educator.

Dr. Moran is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Nurses Association, Lamaze International, Nursing Network on Violence Against Women International, Southern Nursing Research Society and the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Moran received a BSN from Villanova University; a Master’s in nursing and MPH in Maternal-Child Health from the University of Hawaii, a certificate of nurse midwifery from the Frontier School of Nurse Midwifery; and a PhD from the University of Virginia.
