THE WHY
AND HOW OF DEALING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE PC2 (PI) James W.
Pichert, PhD
Disruptive behavior by healthcare professionals is
a threat to quality of care and patient safety, while also affecting staff
morale and increasing cost burdens to a healthcare organization. This
presentation will provide tools, strategies and a comprehensive plan to
address disruptive conduct. Furthermore, the methodology presented in this
workshop is an essential component of a plan to address The Joint
Commission's July 2008 Alert entitled "Behaviors that undermine a culture
of safety."

LEGAL ISSUES IN PERINATAL CARE: LESSENING YOUR
LIABILITY PC3 (PI) Suzanne Baird, MSN, RN
Perinatal care providers are acutely aware of potential legal claims that
may be filed against them. Much of the concern involves unknowns about
legal process and defenses to lawsuits filed. This workshop is designed to
alert perinatal providers to current legal issues and trends, discuss
nursing defenses to decrease liability and how such defenses may lessen the
individual and agency liability. Legal case studies will illustrate these
concepts.
OB
EMERGENCIES: CASE MANAGEMENT FROM THE TRENCHES PC4 (AP, CB,
Rx) Nan H. Troiano, RN, MSN
This
workshop addresses essential concepts for effective management of obstetric
complications and clinical emergencies. Clinical case studies "from
the trenches" give participants ample opportunity to apply key concepts to
real crisis situations. Medical-legal considerations during obstetric
emergencies are also explored.
