The next AWHONN Orange County chapter meeting will feature Anne Castles, who is the Project Manager, California Maternal Data Center, which is part of CMQCC.

The evening will include the following presentation:

Title:  The California Maternal Data Center: A User-Friendly Tool (Really!) for Using Data to Drive Quality Improvement

The California Maternal Data Center (CMDC) helps hospitals improve quality around Elective Deliveries Under 39 Weeks—and other nationally-endorsed perinatal metrics—in a way that is low-burden, low cost and high value for participants.  Specifically, the CMDC can:

  • Generate rapid-cycle OB quality metrics—using a mechanism that substantially minimizes hospital data collection burden
  • Compare hospital performance to system, regional and statewide benchmarks
  • Perform drill-down analysis to identify specific QI opportunities for a hospital
  • Evaluate each physician’s contribution to hospital performance
  • Identify specific data coding issues that impact measure results

The secure, web-based data submission process is simple and substantially reduces the need for chart review for the Elective Delivery measure.  In addition, participation in the program is free through 2014 given generous funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF).

We are opening this meeting up to non-AWHONN members, please encourage your nursing managers, nursing directors, and staff nurses to attend.
