November 2011 Dear SB and VC members, How embarrassed we were to see the latest information on our website was from fall of 2010. That is a year ago! We are so sorry that we haven’t been more on top of things! Life does, indeed, get in the way! Our members are staying busy becoming certified in In Patient Obstetrics, Electronic Fetal Monitoring and Breastfeeding. We are so happy to also welcome our new graduate nurses into our fold of AWHONN as well as into their respective places of employment. Welcome to both nursing and to AWHONN. We have worked on planning another chapter meeting and have gotten caught up in work and now the holiday season is fast approaching. We know that members in our chapter are very busy implementing new guidelines for BLS, ACLS, and NRP and some are on the Magnet journey. The national conference in Denver this past June seems so very far away and before you know it, we will be headed to National Harbor, Maryland, for the 2012 Convention. Our chapter leaders will change a bit as Dodi steps into the new role as California Section Chair. Vicki McPhail, MSN, RNC-OB, Postpartum Educator at Cottage Hospital, has agreed to assist Mimi with the chapter. We would like another leadership member from Ventura. Please contact us if you are interested. We realize our chapter needs a “shot in the arm” and some ideas for a) presentations, b) presenters, and c) venues. We’d like to keep the cost minimal and the education and fun maximal! As the economy is not improving and money is tighter, please remember the great value there is with a membership with AWHONN. There are various ways to pay your membership dues and the value to you in being a member is endless. Start saving to come to San Diego the last week in February for the annual CA Section of AWHONN Conference. The brochure will be available very soon. We look forward to having a good representation of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties at the meeting.
