Introductions

Hello all,

The Maryland Section had a great meeting tonight and we're excited about welcoming more members to future events so that we can strengthen the work of AWHONN in Maryland. We'd love to meet all of you and thought a great way to start would be to do some introductions using this forum.

I have been a nurse for nine years, six of which have been as an L&D nurse at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring Maryland (a.k.a. "the baby factory"). I am also a full-time PhD student at the University of Maryland School of Nursing where my research is focusing on shared decision making for elective induction of labor. I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Best,

Stacey Iobst

All the best,

Greetings!
I'm a little slow in responding to this post but I wanted to echo Stacey and Debra about the wonderful meeting that we had earlier this month. Right now I am at the AWHONN Leadership conference and I can't tell you how amazing it has been. One of the first things that members will see as a result of this meeting is a Maryland section Facebook page! Look for it to be launched very soon Smile

Hello Everyone

Hi, My name is Ebony Parker Waugh, I am happy to be active in the Maryland Section of AWHONN, I was previously a member of the Georgia Section, and served as the Secretary/Treasurer.  Georgia, and more specifically, the Metro-Atlanta chapter was very active, with every other month chapter meetings (great topics and discussions), and were well attended.  I am hopeful that the Maryland Section will be very active as well, networking and sharing the latest and greatest in Perinatal Care.

I am currently (for the past year) the Clinical Nurse Specialist at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and am excited to meet everyone and hear about all of the great things going on in your institutions.

Take care--

Ebony C Parker Waugh

Hi Ebony,
So glad to have you as part of our AWHONN Maryland Section! Sounds like you are bringing a lot of great ideas and experience to our group. We look forward to hearing more about the work that you did with your Metro-Atlanta chapter as well as the work you are doing at JHU Bayview. On which unit are you a CNS and what are your responsibilities in that role? I am guessing you are an educator, but perhaps you are doing other work there. Looking forward to meeting you in person. In the meantime, if you are a Facebook user please consider joining our closed Facebook group so that you can easily receive and view updates for the Maryland Section. https://www.facebook.com/groups/AWHONNMarylandSection/
Best,
Stacey

Hi Stacey,

Yes, I am glad to be back home (born in Maryland), my family relocated when I was in high school, and 30 years later I have returned :-)

At JHBMC I am responsible for orientation of new staff; providing continuing education offerings to staff; writing/revising policies; consulting with other CNSs if they have a pregnant patient on their unit for a non-pregnancy related issue; and I am supposed to be involved in research, but currently there aren't any studies going on. Thank you for sharing the facebook group, I will look it up, although i don't get on facebook very often. Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the Maryland members. I am hoping we can become very active and visible across the state!

Take care--
Ebony
