Kentucky Nurse Receives Kimberly-Clark Nursing Research Award

Dr. Marianne Hutti Accepts the AWHONN Kimberly-Clark Grant

Washington, DC, June 30, 2015 – The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) presented the Kimberly-Clark Nursing Research Award to Marianne Hutti, PhD, WHNP-BC, for her work entitled, “Predicting Grief Intensity after Perinatal Loss.” The award is supported through an educational grant from Kimberly-Clark and was presented at the AWHONN national Convention in Long Beach, California.

The Kimberly-Clark Nursing Research Award is granted to researchers whose proposals investigate variables relevant to women’s health, obstetric and neonatal nursing with preference given to proposals with skin care as the subject matter. This is the first year the Kimberly-Clark Nursing Research Award has been presented by AWHONN.

Dr. Hutti is a Professor and Coordinator for the Women’s Health-Family Nurse Practitioner Dual Major Program at the University of Louisville, School of Nursing. She currently teaches masters and doctoral nursing students. Additionally, she practices as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in independent practice. With over 30 years of studying perinatal loss, her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and she has published numerous articles on the topic. "Dr. Hutti’s research will advance the health and wellness of families suffering from a devastating loss," said AWHONN's Chief Executive Officer, Lynn Erdman, MN, RN, FAAN. "Her work will help nurses and other health care providers identify parents who are most likely to experience intense grief and the psychological morbidities which may be associated, such as clinical depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress and offer them treatment and resources, as needed.”

Kimberly-Clark is proud to partner with AWHONN to present the Kimberly-Clark Research Award to Dr. Hutti,” said Aric Melzl, Kimberly-Clark’s General Manager, Huggies® Hospital. “Her passion, leadership and dedication to improving the quality of care for women and families who have experienced perinatal loss are to be commended.”

An AWHONN member since 1976, Dr. Hutti earned both her Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Kentucky, Lexington. She earned her PhD and a postgraduate certificate as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from Indiana University, Indianapolis.
