Arizona Nurse Receives National Nursing Association’s Excellence Award

Cheryl Roth Accepts AWHONN Award for Practice

 

The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) today presented its 2017 Award of Excellence in Practice Cheryl Roth, PhD, WHNP-BC, RNC-OB, RNF, for her 38year career providing superior care for women and newborns. The award was presented at the AWHONN national Convention New Orleans, LA.

 

AWHONN presents its Award of Excellence in Practice each year to an AWHONN member who exemplifies outstanding clinical expertise, dedication to promoting a professional image of nursing through practice, and contributions in their area of practice that have national or international significance. 

 

Dr. Cheryl Roth has worked in all areas of women’s health. She is currently working as the Nurse Practitioner in a Level III High Risk Obstetrics unit is Scottsdale, AZ. Her duties include clinical oversight of the Antepartum High Risk Unit, responsibility for all nursing research projects on her units, and assistance with education. As Coordinator of the CCC (Coordinated Care Program for Complex Moms and Babies), she manages an innovative program to support patients with high risk diagnoses during pregnancy, delivery, and throughout the postpartum stay

“Dr. Roth is well known as a clinical expert in the area of perinatal care, which is reflected in both her individualized care of childbearing families, as well as her interactions with other obstetric clinicians,” said AWHONN’s Chief Executive Officer, Lynn Erdman, MN, RN, FAAN. “Her consistent compassion and patient advocacy are admirable.”

 

She has recently completed a term on the AWHONN National Board of Directors and was a member of the AWHONN Public Policy Committee. She currently is the District 3 Member of the Section Advisory Committee. She has served on many AWHONN Planning Committees in both Texas and Arizona. Cheryl is an AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Instructor Trainer and was instrumental in bringing AWHONN Fetal Monitoring courses to Arizona when she moved there from Texas in 2007.She has presented nationally on many topics, including fetal monitoring and high risk pregnancy.

Dr. Roth received her PhD in Global Nursing from the University of Texas at Tyler in2014, and her dissertation was titled “Human Factors Contributing to Nursing Errors”. She has published in Nursing for Women’s Health, JOGNN, JONA, Nursing Forum, and MCN. Her commitment to the care of women, newborns, and nurses is encompassed in her personal mission statement, which begins “My life shall be about birth…”
