The Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), published by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, is pleased to announce a new addition to their team. Patricia Robin McCartney, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been appointed as JOGNN’s Associate Editor, Health Care Improvement and Evaluation.  This manuscript category captures analysis of innovations and trends in health care, clinical practice, care delivery systems, or public policy and includes reports of quality improvement, program evaluation, and evidence-based practice projects.

Dr. McCartney is uniquely qualified to head this section of JOGNN.   For almost three decades, Dr. McCartney served as a clinical professor of nursing and adjunct professor of women’s studies at The State University of New York, University at Buffalo, School of Nursing. She is currently the Director of Nursing Research at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC where she mentors investigators conducting nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice projects. Dr. McCartney has a strong record of research and clinical scholarship, including peer-reviewed and invited articles and presentations, book chapters, and books. Many nurses know her as the founder of the online Perinatal Nursing Electronic Discussion, aka, the Perinatal Listserv that she began in 1995.

Dr. McCartney previously served as a guest editor for JOGNN and Nursing for Women’s Health and has been an editorial board member for JOGNN and MCN. She also has an extensive record of volunteer service for AWHONN, the National Certification Corporation, the March of Dimes, and other professional organizations. Among her many honors and awards, Dr. McCartney was named a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2001.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. McCartney, a nurse with exemplary qualifications, to our editorial team,” said JOGNN’s Editor-In- Chief Dr. Nancy Lowe. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with her in the continued development of JOGNN as the premier scholarly  journal in women’s health, maternity, and neonatal nursing.”
