The AWHONN Educational Advisory Committee

There exists a unique opportunity for our AWHONN members to participate in offering expert recommendations for the development and direction of the educational products and programs that AWHONN provides its members. Enduring engagement from our membership will continue to provide the latest trends and clinical acumen required to maintain the highest levels of educational offerings and options. The AWHONN Educational Advisory Committee (EAC) will provide recommendations on present and evolving nursing and patient care educational opportunities. In addition, the EAC will share perspectives on AWHONN educational initiatives, educational formats and product pipeline development. The EAC will meet monthly via web conference to evaluate the effectiveness of current and proposed AWHONN educational activities and offerings, as well as participating in development of new educational programs and products. The Educational Advisory Committee will meet annually at the AWHONN National Convention.

 

Prerequisites for Applicants

 

  • Must currently function in the role of Nurse Educator/Clinical Educator in your unit(s)
  • Your role includes the design, implementation, evaluation and revision of educational offerings
  • Ideally serves as a Nurse Planner for educational offerings
  • In-depth understanding of ANCC continuing education standards

A total of ten (10) Educational Advisory Committee members will be selected from all applicants. Each Educational Advisory Committee member will serve a two (2) year term. Applicants ideally will possess a strong understanding of AWHONN’s mission, vision and strategic priorities. Applicants should also possess a broad professional network, and be knowledgeable in current clinical practice, education, and professional nursing trends. One member of the Committee will be appointed as Chair. 

 

This is a volunteer position, and we are committed to our AWHONN volunteers. However, it is also important to understand that your appointment to this committee requires commitment on your part. Each participant must be able to attend at least 80% of meetings per year. This is a working committee, and as such, attendance at monthly meetings is vital. 

 

Specific duties of the Educational Advisory Committee:

 

  1. Attend monthly conference calls
  2. Examine and review current AWHONN programs and educational content
  3. Provide recommendations regarding development of new programs and products that can promote organizational sustainability and growth, including best practices and innovations in education delivery
  4. Serve as an AWHONN liaison to nurse educators regionally and nationally
  5. Representing, involving and serving AWHONN members, including student members

For your application to be considered complete, a completed application and one (1) professional reference (preferably from a supervisor) are required. In addition, a current CV and cover letter describing your interest in this Committee position are also required.

Applicants chosen for the program will be required to sign conflict of interest documents as well as an ethical governance statement.
