Awards of Excellence 2017

The AWHONN Board of Directors is accepting nominations for the AWHONN Awards of Excellence to recognize members who have made a significant or outstanding contribution to the specialties of women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing at the local, state, national or international level.

 

The Board of Directors has revised the awards to be presented in each of the following three areas:

  • Leadership
  • Education (2 awards: one for academic or scholarly education and one for clinical education)
  • Practice (2 awards: one for bedside nurses and one for Advanced Practice Nurses)

 

If you are interested in nominating a candidate, click below to complete the online application package. Self-nominations will not be accepted or allowed. The deadline for submitting a completed application package is Midnight (EST), Friday, February 10, 2017.

 

Leadership

  • Advocates for optimal care of women and newborns through leadership efforts, which translate to system change.
  • History of individual contribution to promote the profession of women’s or newborn’s health nursing within a system, culture, or division.
  • Describe the advocacy or leadership contribution which promotes AWHONN’s mission.
  • History of individual contribution to promote women’s or newborn’s health nursing on the local, state, or federal political arenas beyond employment requirements.
  • Integrates AWHONN’s mission and standards in their contribution to women’s and newborn’s health through advocacy efforts.
  • Ability to mobilize colleagues in support of a legislative or health policy issue that is reflective of AWHONN’s mission and standards.
  • Enhances colleagues’ ability to influence health policy through mentoring and educational activities.
  • Demonstrates the following leadership attributes:
    • Visionary and passionate regarding AWHONN and health promotion of women and newborns
    • Models professional behavior
    • Motivates excellence in others encouraging opportunities for growth, change and development
    • Inspires confidence and celebrates the success of others above one’s own success
    • Communicates complex ideas in simplistic manner
    • Lives the message: creative, resourceful, confident and passionate

Education

  • Contribute to the knowledge base of women’s health, obstetric and/or newborn nursing care.
  • Improve the practice of professional nursing through teaching excellence; such as conveying complex concepts in a simplistic manner, innovative methods, incorporating evidence-based practice standards, interprofessional education, and/or using a collaborative approach.
  • Identify the candidate’s role in education that has AWHONN chapter, section, national or international implications.
  • Promote excellence in others, such as encouraging opportunities for professional growth and/or evidenced based practice.
  • Describe the educational contribution which promotes AWHONN’s mission and AWHONN’s commitment to evidence-based education and practice.
  • Demonstrates the following AWHONN leadership attributes:
    • Visionary and passionate regarding AWHONN and health promotion of women and newborns
    • Models professional behavior
    • Motivates excellence in others encouraging opportunities for growth, change and development
    • Inspires confidence and celebrates the success of others above one’s own success
    • Communicates complex ideas in simplistic manner
    • Lives the message: creative, resourceful, confident and passionate

Practice

  • Advance clinical excellence of professional nursing in a clinical or community setting which serves a women’s health, obstetric or newborn population.
  • Integrate clinical practice of evidence based care through an innovative strategy.
  • Contribute to nursing practice which has chapter, section, national or international implications as demonstrated by project description, publication, poster or podium presentation.
  • Utilize a multidisciplinary approach, lead and champion change, quality improvement, and implement evidence based practice in a clinical or community setting.
  • Describe the professional practice contribution which promotes AWHONN’s mission.
  • Demonstrates the following AWHONN leadership attributes:
    • Visionary and passionate regarding AWHONN and health promotion of women and newborns
    • Models professional behavior
    • Motivates excellence in others encouraging opportunities for growth, change and development
    • Inspires confidence and celebrates the success of others above one’s own success
    • Communicates complex ideas in simplistic manner
    • Lives the message: creative, resourceful, confident and passionate
