PERINATAL NURSING LISTSERV FAQ

What is the AWHONN Perinatal Nursing Listserv?

A listserv is an application that distributes messages to subscribers on an electronic mailing list so those who subscribe to the Perinatal Nursing Listserv will receive an email each time a message is posted in the forum or subscribers may elect to receive a daily digest version.  The purpose of the AWHONN Perinatal Nursing listserv is for AWHONN members to have a forum to pose questions and receive responses from their colleagues about current perinatal practice issues.  AWHONN will not moderate the discussions or respond to questions through the Listserv.  Questions can be directed to AWHONN at customerservice@awhonn.org

The Perinatal Listserv is not……

  • Meant to be a chat room or blog.  The intention of the listserv is to share and collaborate with peers on ideas, questions and best practices related to daily professional issues in patient care.
  • A repository for documents.  Attachments are strictly prohibited due to concerns about viruses and file size.  If you are interested in a policy referenced by a poster, please connect the individual off line.
  • A place to post casually. All professionals are 100% responsible for their own posts. Posts are available to members and archives and are not removed.
  • A place to post advertisements.  Those posts will be removed.

How do I subscribe?

1.      Go to  http://listserv.awhonn.org/

2.      Click on PNATALRN

3.      Click on Subscribe on the right side of the screen

4.      Put your first name and last name in the Name Field

5.      Put the email address you have on file with AWHONN in the email field

6.      Select your subscription type (Regular or Digest)

7.      Click Subscribe

What is the difference between a digest and regular subscription?

Regular: With a "regular" subscription, you receive each individual posting by email as they are processed by the list server. In a typical month, this list has approximately 100 or more email postings.

Digest: With a "digest" subscription, you receive a few larger messages (called "digests") at regular intervals, usually once per day or once per week. These "digests" are collections of individual list postings. If the list is very active it may produce more than one digest per day. Digests are a good option for those who prefer not to have multiple individual emails arriving in their inbox.

Who do I contact if I am not receiving the confirmation emails or the listserv emails?

Contact AWHONN staff at listservadmin@awhonn.org

Who can subscribe to the Perinatal Nursing Listserv?

AWHONN members are eligible to subscribe to the Perinatal Nursing Listserv.  Members are asked to include their Name and AWHONN Member number in the name field during registration.  The subscription requests will be reviewed and approved/denied by AWHONN customer service within 72 business hours.

Users are asked to register with the same email address they have on file with AWHONN.

Those non-members who were subscribed to the University of Buffalo Perinatal Listserv will have 1 year of complementary access to the AWHONN Perinatal Listserv beginning November 15, 2017.

How do I view the Listserv archives?

To view the archives, just click on the archive link. You will then be promoted to set up a username and password if you have not set one up already. You will then receive a confirmation email. Click on the link in that email and then you will be able to view the archives.

Are attachments allowed?

No, attachments to emails are not allowed.  Users are encouraged to have direct email exchanges apart from the listserv to share documents.  Posting your messages to include your signature line information facilitates off line sharing.

Is the information posted private?

No, any email posted can be viewed by AWHONN members

Can I share requests for research participants?

Requests to post research surveys should be directed to listserve@awhonn.org and include the IRB.

  4. Attachments are not permitted on discussion lists.
  5. All professionals are 100% responsible for their own posts. Posts are available to members and archives and are not removed.
