|Obstetric Patient Safety Education Program|
The AWHONN Obstetric Patient Safety Education Program is a pilot program designed to train instructors on the most up-to-date, evidence-based skills that will promote patient safety. AWHONN Obstetric Patient Safety Instructors will be hosting educational sessions in their local areas. The focus of the initial instructor training is on helping clinicians implement the national consensus postpartum hemorrhage safety bundle.
Scheduled to launch by Spring 2017, the Postpartum Hemorrhage Obstetric Patient Safety (PPH OPS) course provides participants with education on best practices and key clinical behaviors known to effectively manage postpartum hemorrhage. Tools such as the PPH risk assessment, Quantification of Blood Loss (QBL) Process Map, Debriefing Form, PPH Management Algorithm, Oxytocin and QBL Practice Briefs, and other resources are a part of the course. Participants will apply PPH knowledge by engaging in simulation skill stations with focus on the following:
Improve obstetric clinician’s recognition of, readiness for, response to, and reporting of postpartum hemorrhage to provide greater access for women to receive early, effective, and aggressive lifesaving treatments for this obstetric emergency.
