Ohio Lactation Consultants Association 2016 conference AWHONN scholarship recipients

Posted By Susan Hale, Monday, August 22, 2016

The Ohio Lactation Consultants Association (OLCA) would like to express our sincere appreciation of Ohio AWHONN’s generous donation to support breastfeeding education in Ohio.

Because of the generosity of your AWHONN members a scholarship was offered and 20 nurses from Ohio were able to attend the 2016 Ohio Lactation Consultants Association 2016 Annual Conference.

The theme of the conference this year was “Setting the Table for Breastfeeding and Beyond” focusing on the CDC’s recommendations and the Healthy People 2020 goal for extending exclusive breastfeeding for six months. As you know, moms face many challenges today in achieving their breastfeeding goals. The 2016 OLCA conference offered education and evidenced based solutions to challenges such as diabetes, PCOS, food allergies, cultural barriers and introduction of solids; as well as working with mothers who have body art and/or piercings. We also offered workshops on implementing baby friendly hospital practices and supporting military families in their unique breastfeeding challenges.

We recognize the impact your AWHONN members have on the outcomes of breastfeeding success and the resulting long term health outcome of moms and babies in Ohio. We are honored that you chose OLCA as the recipient of your members’ generous donation to breastfeeding education in Ohio.

Laura Knisley RD, LD, RNC-OB, cMNN, IBCLC, CDE

Ohio Lactation Consultant Association Vice President
