We would like to give a big shout out to @awhonn nurse, Joan Culver who has hosted a @healthymomandbaby Diaper Drive for the past two years. This past year, Joan and her team were able to raise 20,000 diapers for the families with diaper need in Indiana! Her event serves as both a diaper drive and an educational event about diaper need. Traveling to local Kiwanis, Rotary luncheons, church events, and reaching out on social media her team has truly helped to spread awareness of diaper need to their community. Thank you for all you do! #nurses4diaperneed

Seasons greetings!

I am just so excited to share that we are SO close to meeting our goal of raising 300,000 diapers in 2018. With the help of our nurses, nationwide, we have been able to raise 240,373 diapers. We still have until 12/31 to make an impact on diaper need in our country. You can donate to any of our holiday drives:

1. Hurricane Florence:

2. Hurricane Michael:

3. Ca Wildfires:

OR you can donate diapers to your nearest community resource center that is able to distribute diapers to families in need.

A big THANK YOU to all who have held drives this year. So amazed at your efforts and your hearts.

September Diaper Drive Update

Posted By Jessica K. Hazboun, Monday, September 10, 2018

Happy Monday!

Just a few things I wanted to share with everyone:

  1. The Chapter Challenge that ends on the last day of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, September 24th-30th. If you have hosted a diaper drive any time this past year, remember to record your drive on Any diapers raised will be added to your chapter tally. The chapter/section that has raised the most diapers will win the GRAND PRIZE of an AWHONN hosted Pizza Party + Goodie Box filled with pins, totes, and lanyards for the ENTIRE chapter.
  2. There is no “right” way to hold a diaper drive, as long as you are helping to raise awareness of the severity of diaper need. Your drives can be held at your local church, your next meeting, your hospital, a facility, or anywhere in your community and the diapers raised can be donated to ANY community organization that is able to distribute diapers to those with diaper need.

I have FULL confidence that we can make the difference that we as professionals nurses are SO capable of. Contact me at today!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Jessica Hazboun, I am your 2018 Healthy Mom&Baby Diaper Drive Consultant. Do you collect diapers, clothes, infant care items to share with families in your facility?

Posted By Carolyn D. Cockey, Thursday, May 24, 2018

So many of our wonderful AWHONN members collect diapers, wipes, car seats, clothes, food, etc., for families in need in their hospitals and facilities.

We were touched by this story of a nurse doing the same in the Emergency Room where she works:

We would like to SHARE YOUR STORIES and pictures of how you collect and share items with families in need.

Would you be willing to send your story and pictures of where/how you store these items so that we can share on the AWHONN blog and in other ways?

NURSES ROCK and we want to inspire others with your actions!

Please email Healthy Mom&Baby Editor Carolyn Cockey at with your stories and images--we can't wait to celebrate and help what you're doing inspire others to the same!!!!

SPEAKER IDENTIFIED! Speaker Needed for Diaper Need Panel on Capitol Hill in May, Washington, DC

Posted By Carolyn D. Cockey, Tuesday, February 21, 2017

Can You Explain How Diaper Need

Affects Infants, Children & Their Families?

The Healthy Mom&Baby Diaper Drive is seeking a nurse speaker who would be willing to address how diaper need affects families and an infant's well being within a panel presentation coordinated by our partner, the non-profit National Diaper Bank Network, in Washington, DC.

  • EVENTCapitol Hill, Washington, DC
  • Panel Presentation on Diaper Need
  • Thursday, May 11th
  • Morning--exact time to be determined
  • 1 of 4-5 presenters; approx. 10-15 minutes of speaking time

We are seeking nurse experts to talk about the importance of diapers to the health and well being of children and families — including physical, mental, and economic well being. Nurses are on the front lines and see the effects of diaper need first hand.

If you are within driving distance of Washington, DC, would you please consider representing AWHONN and our diaper drive at this event? AWHONN will provide expense reimbursement and a small honorarium for your time. Please let us know if you would have other reimbursement needs related to this opportunity.

Last year’s panel focused on child poverty and included:

  • Professor Peter Edelman, Georgetown University Law Center;
  • Dr. Megan V. Smith, Yale School of Medicine and the New Haven Mental health Outreach for MotherS (MOMS) Partnership;
  • Joanne Samuel Goldblum, Executive Director, National Diaper Bank Network;
  • Bruce Lesley, Executive Director, First Focus; and
  • Rebecca Vallas, Managing Director, Poverty to Prosperity Program, Center for American Progress, who served as moderator.

Opening remarks were delivered by Luke Tate of The White House, and Rep. Rosa Delauro (D-CT) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN).

For more information on this opportunity, please email Carolyn Cockey at or Summer Hunt at Please include your CV and a note as to why you're interested in speaking.

We look forward to being fully represented by our many incredible nurses in this important Capitol Hill Day event!
