Perioperative Care of the Pregnant Woman Call for Experts

AWHONN will begin revision of the Perioperative Care of the Pregnant Woman Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline in the Fall of 2017. We are seeking a very limited number of AWHONN member experts to participate in this revision process. This will be an 18 month commitment to work with AWHONN staff, as well as clinical and research experts in the field of obstetrics with a focus on perioperative assessment and care of pregnant women undergoing cesarean birth, non-obstetric operative procedures, and recovery. Requirements for consideration for this project include:


  • Current AWHONN membership
  • Minimum of Master’s prepared registered nurse
  • Current employment in an inpatient obstetric clinical setting or as obstetric nursing faculty in an academic setting
  • Experience caring for women having cesarean birth
  • Experience with or working knowledge of current AWHONN and/or AORN perioperative practice guidelines.
  • Ability to evaluate and critique published research literature
  • Availability to attend one  in-person meeting for 2 days in the late Winter/early Spring of 2018
