As the new legislative Rep for the AWHONN Indiana Chapter I wanted to reach out and give a short synopsis of 2 of the most recent state bills that have been passed by the Indiana Legislature that impacts the work we do as women health care professionals;

State Bill (SB) 360;

This SB 360 (Perinatal Levels of Care) was passed by a 93-0 vote in the state legislature. This Bill ensures that perinatal and birthing centers acquire and maintain certifications that allows them to have a designation distinction. This Bill states that the State Department will establish a program that certifies perinatal levels of care designations for every hospital and birthing center licensed within the state that provide obstetrics and neonatal care.

State Bill (SB) 142

The SB 142 (Maternal Mortality Review Committee) was passed unanimously by the Indiana Legislature. This Bill  ensures the creation of a  state-wide maternal mortality review committee that is  responsible for the review of all maternal deaths state- wide. Meaning, all maternal deaths occurring within the state of Indiana, must be sent to this committee for review.
