Winner, Best Louisiana Feature, 2016 New Orleans Film Festival

Though there is much to enjoy and experience in New Orleans, the state of Louisiana has one of the highest rates of domestic violence homicides in the country. But five determined Louisiana women are fighting to change this. The short documentary five awake follows these women throughout their collective effort to champion state legislation that would protect victims of domestic abuse and save lives. Their drive and efforts were instrumental in the unanimous passage of six historic bills aimed at stopping domestic violence.

After viewing this moving and groundbreaking documentary, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to participate in a lively Q&A session with the five women champions, featured in the film. Learn firsthand of their struggles, personal reflections and successes. Reception to follow.
