Nine Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) members attended a 3-day course February 21-23, 2018 at the University of Iowa to develop advanced skills in navigating the evidence-based practice (EBP) process to grow organizational infrastructure to support evidence-based health care.  This EBP training program was sponsored by AWHONN’s Every Woman, Every Baby program. These nine participants are committed to implementing, evaluating, and sustaining EBP changes within their health care system.

This training provided a highly interactive, individual and small-group focus with individualized consultation sessions. The attendees received a vast array of resources for use and adaptation within their clinical setting. After attending the training they are going to implement the project each of them developed during the training session and are asked to coordinate dissemination of their practice change by conducting a webinar, making a presentation at a regional or local convention, or other means of sharing their story with other AWHONN members.

“This EBP advanced training provided these passionate AWHONN nurses with skills that will guide nursing care and improve patient outcomes,” said AWHONN’s Chief Executive Officer, Suzanne Berry, “We look forward to reviewing and seeing them present their projects and to hear more about the challenges and rewards of implementing practice change to improve care to women and newborns.”

We are grateful for all our donors who contribute to Every Woman, Every Baby fund and empower AWHONN to support our members through awards, grants and scholarships.
