2019 AWHONN on Capitol Hill
Share |

AWHONN will host a public policy conference with a lobby day from April 7 to 9, 2019 to advance legislation to promote the health of women and newborns.

Click here to register for the 2019 AWHONN on Capitol Hill. Registration is a non-refundable $199 which includes breakfast and lunch on April 8th and breakfast on Tuesday, April 9th. Travel and hotel reservations are the responsibility of the individual.

Format

We ask that you arrive on Sunday afternoon or evening, April 7th unless you live in the local area.  We will meet for an optional, no-host social at 5:00 pm in the hotel lobby.  Monday, April 8 will be a full day of briefings to prepare you to meet with members of Congress or their staff. You will be thoroughly briefed on up to three bills (to be determined) by AWHONN staff and other policy experts. There will also be a thorough briefing of logistics for Tuesday.

On Tuesday, April 9th you will travel in small groups from the hotel to Capitol Hill in shared taxicabs or app hailed rides such as Lyft or Uber. Attendees can also opt to travel by Metro using the Rosslyn station. AWHONN staff will have made appointments for you with each of the three members of your Congressional delegation. We will be provide you with a printout of your unique schedule of meetings with appointment times and locations for each. We will also provide you with talking points and letters to leave for your members of Congress. You should expect to have about a 30 minute meeting with each office.

Hotel

The Monday briefing sessions will be held at the Key Bridge Marriott and a special group rate of $169 single/double has been negotiated on your behalf.  This is an excellent rate and rooms will fill up quickly so we ask that you book your room at the time of your registration. AWHONN encourages you to stay at the Key Bridge Marriott where all sessions will be held. We’ll be starting early on Monday and Tuesday mornings and we’ll be providing breakfast both days for attendees.

AWHONN has selected this hotel for its location, availability, and the cost of both the guest rooms and meeting rooms. AWHONN has contracted with the hotel and committed to fill a minimum number of rooms. Booking your room at this hotel helps meet that commitment and avoid penalty fees and a higher cost for future AWHONN conferences.

The hotel’s cut-off date for room reservations is March 11, 2019. Reservation requests received after the cut-off date will be based on availability at the hotel’s prevailing rates.

Hotel reservation instructions will be included in the confirmation email you will receive after registering.

Travel

AWHONN recommends flying into and out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). We recommend arriving on Sunday so that you can join us for a no-host cash bar reception at 5:00 pm and get a good night’s rest before the first session on Monday morning. Appointments on Tuesday may end as late as 5:30, therefore we recommend making a flight reservation no earlier than 7:00 pm. The hotel is a short taxicab ride from the airport or five stops on the Metro Blue line to Rosslyn Station.
