AWHONN CERTIFICATES

AWHONN EDUCATION

AWHONN is not a certifying organization and therefore does not offer any certification examinations.

AWHONN resources may be used to prepare for certification examinations.

AWHONN offers a variety of programs/courses that offer continuing nursing education (CNE) contact hours.

After successful completion of a course/program that offers CNE contact hours, a certificate of completion is awarded or generated.

Certificates of completion are not certificates of certification.

Contact hours awarded by AWHONN may be used to fulfill certification renewal requirements and may be used for licensure requirements as defined by individual State Boards of Nursing.

AWHONN does not define the frequency that perinatal clinicians must participate in educational programs/courses such as the Fetal Monitoring Courses.

Organizations and employers may have specific requirements for education, such as renewal of the BLS, ACLS, and NRP programs.  Please refer to your employer for specific direction and guidelines related to how often course participation is required.

CERTIFICATION FROM EXTERNAL ORGANIZATIONS

CERTIFICATION INFORMATION

Certification credentials are awarded by specific organizations after a candidate successfully completes a comprehensive examination.

Some organizations that offer certification:

  • National Certification Corporation (NCC) offers multiple certification examinations for perinatal nursing clinicians.  Visit the NCC website www.nccwebsite.org for full information about which certifications they offer and the specific requirements for each one.
  • The American Midwifery Certification Board is the source for information for Certified Nurse Midwives.  Visit their website for information http://www.amcbmidwife.org

Certification credentials expire after a predetermined time period set by the certifying organization.  Clinicians must comply with criteria for recertification if they choose to maintain their certified status.

Clinicians should check with their original certifying organization for recertification/renewal criteria.
