AWHONN Responds to ARRIVE Trial
Share |

The ARRIVE Trial was published today in the New England Journal of Medicine. AWHONN is reviewing the study, and will engage with nurse clinical experts to thoroughly review the implications for obstetric nursing. AWHONN supports women’s shared decision making with their maternity care team, adequate levels of nurse staffing to assure safe care, and support for charge nurses who have the critical responsibility to assure capacity of their birth units to safely care for all the women they serve, including those who have induction of labor. It is important to note that the potential impacts of this study do not end in the Labor and Delivery unit. The impact to patient throughput and care in the Postpartum/Mother Baby setting must be explored with equal weight, and the unique variables that exist in that care setting. We look forward to engaging with you, and hearing more about the discussions you and your teams are having surrounding this study.

In addition to the study, an editorial response by Dr. Michael Greene is available for review.
