Critical Care Obstetrics Education Frequently Asked Questions


Q1. What is CCOE?

CCOE consists of 4 courses related to the care of critically ill perinatal women. Continuing nursing education (CNE) hours can be earned for each course. It is designed to provide nurses with theoretical knowledge needed to provide care to high-risk and critically ill women. The program is targeted toward registered nurses who work in perinatal nursing, including graduate and experienced nurses.


CCOE can be purchased in the AWHONN Online Learning Center. Each course is fully narrated. Learners may begin a course and come back to finish the course at a later time within a year or until the CNE expires whichever comes first.


Q2. When does the CNE expire for CCOE?

Q4. Why should I take Noninvasive Hemodynamic Function and Assessment before I take one of the other courses?

The Noninvasive Hemodynamic Function and Assessment course covers the physiologic adaptations of pregnancy, core concepts in the care of the pregnant woman. These physiologic changes affect nursing assessment parameters of hemodynamics and oxygen transport. Understanding these core concepts will assist you when assessing a critically ill pregnant woman.
