This second edition guideline provides important research-based recommendations for alternative methods of nursing management of the second stage of labor, including the rationale for and importance of upright positioning and delayed and non-directed pushing to facilitate the birth process.
Guideline elements also include evidence- based clinical practice recommendations for:
- Prenatal and intrapartum preparation of the woman and her partner
- Physical, emotional, instructional, and advocacy nursing support during the second stage of labor
An expanded section that comprehensively addresses evaluation of the maternal and fetal physiologic processes of the second stage of labor.
