Awards of Excellence 2018
If you know a nursing professional who has gone above and beyond in impacting women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing, consider nominating them for the 2018 Awards of Excellence. Each year, AWHONN recognizes members who have made a positive difference in our specialty areas at the local, state, national and even international level. Nominations will be accepted until April 6, 2018

PRACTICE AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The Practice Award of Excellence recognizes two AWHONN members each year who made a significant nursing practice contribution to the specialty of women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing.

Bedside Nurse

The primary professional responsibility of the award recipient is nursing clinical care at the bedside in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
 
The intent is to recognize a nurse who has contributed to the practice of evidence based care within a women’s, perinatal or neonatal unit / population.
 






Advanced Practice Nurse

The primary professional responsibility of the award recipient is an advanced practice nurse (e.g. nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, etc.) who is a champion of practice change that impacts women’s health, perinatal or neonatal clinical practice on a larger scope.

The intent is to recognize a nurse who has contributed to the implementation of evidence based practice that impacts an entire unit/division/system/population.




EDUCATION AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The Education Award of Excellence recognizes two AWHONN members each year who made a significant educational contribution to the specialty of women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing. 

Clinical Educator

The primary professional responsibility of this award recipient is a nurse who provides clinical education (e.g. unit-based nurse educators, childbirth educators, lactation educators, etc.)
to a specified population of nurses or women/families. 
 
The intent of this award is to recognize a nurse who contributes to the profession of nursing and the care of women and/or newborns through clinical education. 




Scholarly / Academic Educator

The primary professional responsibility of this award recipient is a nurse who provides education to a broad population of nursing students (undergrad/graduate), nurses, and/or multidisciplinary professionals. Examples of candidates may include, but are not limited to: Nursing faculty, Nurse scholars, Nurse authors. 
 
The intent of this award is to recognize a nurse who contributes to the profession of nursing and the care of women and/or newborns through scholarly academic education.  
 




LEADERSHIP AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The Leadership Award of Excellence recognizes one AWHONN member each year who made a significant leadership contribution to the specialty of women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing.
The primary professional responsibility of this award recipient is a nurse who is a department director, nursing administrator, or leader in political activity beyond employment requirements that targets a wide scope of nursing and/or healthcare professionals or the community.

The intent is to recognize leadership efforts that impact the heath of women and/or newborns at the health systems level or the chapter/section/national level in which system or policy changes are developed, implemented and/or advocated.





RESEARCH AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The Research Award of Excellence recognizes one AWHONN member each year who made a significant research contribution to the specialty of women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing. 
The primary professional responsibility of this award recipient is a nurse who designs, conducts and publishes nursing research making a significant contribution in women's and newborns’ health nursing.

The intent is to recognize research efforts that impact the heath of women and/or newborns at the health systems level or the chapter/section/national level.
