  • Description:

The LA Valley Chapter and the Santa Barbara/Ventura Counties AWHONN Chapter Invite you to a Joint Chapter Meeting

As the events of 2020 have laid bare, we can no longer ignore the serious health disparities and inequities that Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) endure in this country. AWHONN is committed to reversing the current Maternal Mortality Crisis and reducing healthcare disparities for BIPOC. California Chapter leaders, Katrina Johnson of The LA Valley AWHONN Chapter and Becca Licha of the Santa Barbara & Ventura Counties AWHONN Chapter invite you to discuss these issues. We will consider diverse lived experiences that aim to expand active listening skills and improve compassionate care. In this meeting, we will demonstrate how implicit bias manifests in healthcare systems, review current stats for Morbidity and Mortality and Covid-19 and then open it up for questions and dialogue. This meeting is a first step to being the change we want to see in healthcare. Please bring an open mind and a desire for honest, meaningful conversation.

  • CANCELED - AWHONN Utah Section Conference
  • Description:

Dear AWHONN Members, Annual Meeting Registrants and Industry Partners,

After careful consideration, the AWHONN Utah Conference Planning Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Utah AWHONN Annual Conference that was re-scheduled for September 24 and 25, 2020 in Salt Lake City. Protecting the health, safety and well-being of our members, attendees and our community is paramount, and serves as the reason for our decision. Put simply, canceling the AWHONN 2020 meeting is the right thing to do during this historic time.

The decision to officially cancel the conference stems from our commitment to promote the health and well-being of our community. As an organization of women's health, obstetric and neonatal nurses and advance practice providers, we have professional responsibility to model the behavior of social distancing and support state and local governmental guidance, especially as it pertains to public health. We must model the behavior being asked of our community to prevent further spread of the virus through large public gatherings.

Our conference planning committee, comprised purely of volunteers who are passionate about advancing the health and well-being of women and newborns, are heartbroken that this educational program that was created specifically to address the maternal-newborn needs in Utah, must be canceled due to this unprecedented situation. These volunteers have selflessly dedicated their time, their passion and their energy to be able to offer this conference, and for that I am forever grateful. We are confident that the presentations will be relevant as we begin to discuss hosting a conference in 2021. As always, the committee welcomes those members who would be willing to volunteer their time and expertise for the Utah Section of AWHONN.

Registrants and industry exhibitors can opt to:

    1.    Receive a full refund of registration monies via mailed check

    2.    Transfer registration to 2021 AWHONN Utah Conference

We are actively collaborating with the finance department at headquarters to establish processes for registration refunds and transfers. We are committed to ensuring restitution. Please watch for a follow-up email containing next steps for refunds and transfers and an FAQ document. If your questions are not answered in the FAQ, or you have any concerns, please direct all inquiries to awhonn.ut@gmail.com

Thank you for your patience, understanding and unwavering commitment to the specialty of women's health, obstetrical and neonatal nursing.

    Sincerely,

Tiffany Hanson, MSN, MHA, RNC-OB, C-EFM
