AWHONN on Capitol Hill 2024
April 29-30, 2024

When I signed up for AWHONN on Capitol Hill I did not know what I was really getting myself into. I was excited to get involved but extremely nervous for this new experience. On the first night of the meet and greet I met people who have done this event for years who gave me a little insight. I felt I was very well prepared to go and speak about this bills that could really make a difference, things that we as not only women’s health nurses but every nurse lives every day.
The impact I made with these representatives no matter how big or small it was, made a large impacted my life for good. It was such an honor to be able to attend.

2023 AWHONN on Capitol Hill Attendee

Registration for AWHONN on Capitol Hill has closed because the maximum number of participants we can accommodate has been reached. We hope you’ll join us in 2025.

Format

Monday, April 29, will be a full day of briefings to prepare you to meet with members of Congress or their staff. You will be thoroughly briefed on up to three bills (to be determined) by AWHONN staff and other policy experts. There will also be training on how to lobby and a thorough briefing of logistics for the lobby day on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, April 30, AWHONN staff will have requested appointments for you with each of the three members of your Congressional delegation and will provide you with your unique schedule of meetings. We will also provide you with talking points. You should expect to have about a 20 to 30 minute meeting with each office.

House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill are a short walk from the hotel.

Hotel

The Monday briefing sessions will be held at the Phoenix Park Hotel and a special group rate of $319 single and $349 for doubles has been negotiated on your behalf.  This is an excellent rate and rooms will fill up quickly, so we ask that you book your room at the time of your registration. AWHONN encourages you to stay at the Phoenix Park Hotel where all sessions will be held. We’ll be starting early on Monday and Tuesday mornings, and we’ll be providing breakfast both days for attendees.

AWHONN has selected this hotel for its location, availability, and the cost of both the guest rooms and meeting rooms. AWHONN has contracted with the hotel and committed to fill a minimum number of rooms. Booking your room at this hotel helps meet that commitment and avoid penalty fees and a higher cost for future AWHONN conferences.

The hotel’s cut-off date for room reservations is March 18. You may reserve your room by calling the toll-free number 1-877-237-2082 or 202-638-6900 and identify yourself as a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses group. You may also book a reservation online and entering the Group Code 24959 to obtain the group rate. Reservations will be accepted after the cutoff date only on a space and rate available basis.

The group rate for sleeping rooms is $319 for singles and $349 for doubles.

All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit and guaranteed by a major credit card. In the event a guest wishes to cancel a reservation, the deposit is refundable if notice is received by 4pm 72 hours prior to the day of arrival and a cancellation number is obtained.

Check in time is 3:00pm and check out time is 11:00am. There will be a late charge for departures after 12:00pm.

To book your room, make your reservation online.

Travel

AWHONN recommends flying into and out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). We recommend arriving on Sunday so that you can join us for a no-host cash bar reception at 5:00 pm and get a good night’s rest before the first session on Monday morning. Appointments on Tuesday may end as late as 5:30, therefore we recommend making a flight reservation no earlier than 7:00 pm. The hotel can be reached from the airport by readily available taxis or by taking Metro from the airport to Union Station on the Red Line. The hotel is a short walk from Union Station, which is served by Amtrak and Metro.
