Washington DC — The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Kortney Floyd James, PhD, CPNP, RN, as Associate Editor of Nursing for Women’s Health.

James is a pediatric nurse practitioner and a postdoctoral fellow in the National Clinical Scholars Program at the University of California Los Angeles. She received a PhD in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing from Georgia State University, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of South Carolina. She has been a reviewer and editorial advisory board member for Nursing for Women’s Health, as well as a reviewer for journals including Addiction, Frontiers in Psychiatry, and Sage Open Medicine. James studies health services and policy approaches to address reproductive health disparities, and transnational linkages for reproductive health, rights, and justice. Her published research has focused on racial identity and maternal health among Black women.

“Dr. James has distinguished herself as an exemplary reviewer and editorial advisory board member for the journal,” said Nursing for Women’s Health editor Heidi Collins Fantasia, PhD, WHNP-BC, RN. “A primary focus of this role will be initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in nursing scholarship, and I look forward to working with Dr. James on these and other editorial initiatives.”

James’s appointment begins on September 1, 2022.
