Washington DC — The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is pleased to announce the recipient of the Distinguished Professional Service Award. The Distinguished Professional Service Award is AWHONN’s most prestigious honor for those who have shown exemplary characteristics in the nursing care of women and newborns. This coveted award is given to an AWHONN member whose accomplishments in the specialties of women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal nursing and contributions to the association exemplify a commitment to excellence.

The 2022 Distinguished Professional Service Award is presented to LaShea Haynes, MEd, MSN, APRN, AGCNS-BC, RNC, C-EFM.

LaShea has been a passionate clinical leader for decades. She has used her knowledge and passion to drive improvements in clinical practice through evidenced-based practices, especially focused on reducing maternal mortality & morbidity, and improving perinatal outcomes. LaShea has used her clinical excellence to develop her professional platform to improve clinical excellence in nurses caring for perinatal patients through teaching AWHONN EFM & Review courses for nurse certifications. She uses her clinical leadership and strong knowledge base to educate, plan and implement best practices in facilities. LaShea has been involved in the WellStar system to influence policies that impacted professional practice at the bedside. She continuously advocates for professional development through her alliance with AWHONN membership, active involvement, and participation.
