The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is concerned by the recent Executive Order to alter longstanding childhood vaccine recommendations. Vaccination policy should be guided by rigorous scientific evidence, transparent review, and the expertise of qualified healthcare professionals. 

Immunizations are a cornerstone of disease prevention and an essential component of protecting newborns, children, families, and communities. Changes to established vaccine recommendations without clear scientific evidence risk creating confusion, undermining vaccine confidence, and leaving children vulnerable to preventable illness. 

AWHONN will continue to advocate for evidence-based immunization practices and policies that protect maternal, newborn, and child health, and we urge federal leaders to ensure future vaccine recommendations are developed through independent scientific review and meaningful engagement with frontline clinicians.
